Hi Solar Friends,

I would like to share the following link from Greenpeace Africa on Solar power.

Please remember that Solar power is not out of reach anymore, you can and will save lots of money when you go solar in SA.

PV Solar for Business - Iskhus Power in JHB's PV system

We have commissioned one more system in Johannesburg at our head offices and like always it is working like a bomb.

We have created 3x system packages in order to make it easier for our customers to pick a system at the best possible price for their homes or businesses. These systems will save you up to 80% on your dirty Eskom power bill and after it has paid itself its FREE energy for as long as the sun shines.

1,7kW Hybrid Solar System
Our smallest system is a 1,7kW and is ideal for household.
The system consists of 10x 190kW ZNShine panels, a 1700 Sunnyboy SMA inverter and obviously all the frames, bolts and wires.
This system costs currently only R42 478 Ex Vat and installation starts at only R4 280
This gives you a kWh price of just R1.00 over 15 Years and produces roughly 3306 kWh per year.

3,3kW Hybrid Solar System

Our middle size system is a 3,3kW and is ideal for household, guest houses and small businesses.
The system consists of 24x 190kW ZNShine panels, a 3300 Sunnyboy SMA inverter and obviously all the frames, bolts and wires.
This system costs currently only R88 742 Ex Vat and installation starts at only R6 330
This gives you a kWh price of just R0,85 over 15 Years and produces roughly 7932 kWh per year

17kW Hybrid Solar System
Our bigger system is a 17kW and is ideal for supermarkets, medium businesses and farms.
The system consists of 92x 190kW ZNShine panels, a 17 000 Sunnyboy SMA inverter and obviously all the frames, bolts and wires.
This system costs currently only R311 277 Ex Vat and installation starts at only R16 260
This gives you a kWh price of just R0,72 over 15 Years and produces roughly 32 407 kWh per year

Photon Labs in the US has tested (July 2011) all major PV panels and has found that the ZNShine panel, the panels we use, are the 2nd best panels amongst 116 manufacturer's tested.

Solar Power in Germany

Thought I share this interesting photo of a big PV Solar system I saw last week in Southern Germany in the mist.

Even with much worse solar radiation, the Germans are producing more energy from the sun that currently in the whole of the US for example.

As an update to my first post I would like to show what the system in Frankfort looked like during the building phase.

One of our guys on the roof of Mrs. Steyn house, you can see the special frame we use for mounting.

Here you see the panels being installed.

More Updates will come regarding this System and much more.

Before I forget, we have recieved the green light from the South Africa IDC for funding for bigger PV Solar systems. The first such financing will be for a 50kW Solar System in Johannesburg.

A small Freestate town goes green with Solar Power

Frankfort on the Wilge, is a small rural nest in the northern Freestate.

Since December 2011 this small town has a green house, or rather, a normal house with a brand new hybrid solar system that makes green power.

In December 2011 Mrs. Steyn decided that she needs to go green and most importantly, she wanted to cut her Eskom power bill. She has been living in this beautiful town now for 40 years and has watch in horror how her power bill has gone up more that 700% over the last 10 years.

The 1,7kW hybrid solar system was commissioned on December 15th and since then, even with summer thunder storms, have been producing between 9 and 13 kW/h green clean energy per day. On the 15th the whole town was standing in the summer sun watching the workers form Iskhus Power from JHB, putting up the 10 ZNshine 190Watt panels, with a cup of "boere troos" coffee. Quit the show for this small town.

She was so happy with the 10 panels and SMA Sunnyboy 1700 that she started wring down how much she made every day. She has also involved her neighbours, by offering them that she will cook the Christmas roast for them during the day when they are at work using free solar energy.

Well the surprise came last week when she got her first power bill, and yes, the savings are more than noticeable, it was big! The meter was read the 29th December and the system started putting green power into her house on December 15th, and in only 13 days she cut almost 50% of her normal power bill.

This system produces power together with the local grid, so this system works without batteries and expensive equipment. When the sun shines, she uses green power, and when the sun has gone to bed, Eskom power is fed into here house again. This all happens without even having to do anything at all! The clever German SMA inverter does everything without help from outside.

And the most exciting point is that this system will pay itself in under 6 years with the current Eskom tariff.
This system was only R42 000 and with the current free fall of solar panels and inverters the price for these systems will fall even more.

I will update this blog as we build more and more of these systems, to bring you more stories of normal people that are making a difference by going green and saving money and the earth, without changing the way they live their daily lives.
